Team USA are looking to add to the 39 medals they have previously won in tennis at the Olympic games.

As the Parisian sun prepares to beat down on Roland Garros, America’s star players will hope to continue their rich history of Olympic tennis success.

With Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula the front-runners in the singles, the pair are set to partner each other in the doubles, having previously won five doubles titles together.

With Madison Keys skipping this year’s games, Emma Navarro and Danielle Collins are the remaining two singles players tasked to bring home singles glory, with Collins partnering Desirae Krawczyk in the doubles.

The men’s doubles teams have also already officially been announced, with six-time major doubles winner Rajeev Ram partnering Austin Krajicek, while singles specialists Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul are set to team up.

Despite this strong team of American players at the Olympics, the mixed doubles partnerships are yet to be announced however, with speculation mounting as to what the teams will be.

Sam Querrey and Rennae Stubbs predict Team USA’s two mixed doubles teams

The six-time major doubles champion, with two coming in the mixed-doubles, Rennae Stubbs has attempted to predict who the teams might be.

She said via NBC’s The French Connection: “I would say it’s probably Jessica [Pegula] and Austin Kraijcek, as they have played many years together. And then Coco [Gauff] and Rajeev Ram. They are both great teams.

“They haven’t announced my mixed doubles teams yet, but that’s my guess.”

Sam Querrey who co-hosts the show also chimed in with his predictions, broadly echoing the thoughts of Stubbs

He said: “If I was the coach that’s who I would be sending out as the two best teams.”

With no medals at all in Tokyo, Team USA will be keen to make amends and add to their previous successes in the event.

How has Team USA previously fared in tennis at the Olympics?

Team USA has seen relatively recent success in the mixed doubles event with Jack Sock and Bethanie Mattek-Sands crowned Olympic champions in Rio 2016 having defeated Ram and Venus Williams in an all-American final.

Limited glory has come in the singles however after the retirement of Venus and Serena Williams, with Venus sitting one medal above her sister on five (four golds, one silver).

The women have seen far more success in the Olympic singles, with Lindsay Davenport, Monica Seles, and Jennifer Capriati all winning medals alongside the Williams sisters.

Mardy Fish’s 2004 Olympic silver medal is the last time an American man earned some silverware in the singles, with Andre Agassi’s triumph in 1996 the last time Team USA saw gold.
