Rafael Nadal sends message to Martin Landaluce after his impressive run in Miami

Martin Landaluce enjoyed an incredibly impressive campaign at this year’s edition of the Miami Open.

The Spaniard, aged just 20, came through qualifying to book his place in the main draw of the ATP Masters 1000 competition.

Landaluce defeated three seeded players en route to the fourth round in Miami, overcoming Luciano Darderi, Karen Khachanov and Sebastian Korda, who had knocked out Carlos Alcaraz.

After his run at the tournament, his legendary compatriot, Rafael Nadal, took to social media to congratulate him.

In a post on his Instagram story, Nadal said: “Congratulations, @martin_landaluce! Great tournament. On to the next challenges!”

Landaluce graduated from the Rafael Nadal Academy, where he trained since childhood, having been born in Madrid.

He made his ATP Tour debut during the 2022 season, appearing at the Gijon Open as a wildcard entrant.

Last season, Landaluce made his Grand Slam main draw debut at the Australian Open, but lost to James McCabe in the first round.

Landaluce has been greatly influenced by Nadal, and he has received some wise words from his countryman.

As per Clay, he said of the 22-time Grand Slam champion: “It’s really good for me to talk to him, to get his advice; that’s stuck in my head.

“The times we trained, I was 15 or 16 and he’d play against me giving it his all. That stayed with me. I’ve got some of his mentality, that fighting spirit of the Spanish.”

Landaluce will move 46 places up the ATP rankings after his run in Miami to world number 105.
