Sebastian Korda defeated Carlos Alcaraz and the crowd as he secured a famous win at the Miami Open.

Korda upset Alcaraz 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in the third round, with the 32nd seed beating the top seed after two hours and 18 minutes of action.

It followed his 6-0, 6-3 win over Camilo Ugo Carabelli, after the American was handed a bye in the first round of the Miami Open.

Korda is playing on home soil at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament, but found himself in a situation where the crowd was cheering for Alcaraz, which he didn’t mind at all.

Sebastian Korda loved ‘hostile environment’ against Carlos Alcaraz

Korda shared his verdict on that situation after the win, saying in his post-match press conference: “I love it. I love playing in a hostile environment.

“Luckily I have played some of my best tennis when the crowd is against you. But they were great both sides, they weren’t doing anything towards me.

“It is a lot of fun when the crowd gets going. It does not matter if it’s for or against me. I really enjoy playing in those environments.

“Hopefully I can keep climbing the rankings and people can come and support me and I can just try to enjoy the moment a little bit more.”

What ATP titles has Sebastian Korda won?

Alcaraz has, of course, already achieved the goal that Korda is looking for, with the Spaniard currently top of the ATP rankings.

He’s also achieved huge success, with his stunning efforts helping generate a huge fanbase at every tournament he plays in.

World number 36 Korda will now be looking to do something similar, although he will have gained plenty of new followers after this memorable win over Alcaraz.

He now turns his focus to Spanish qualifier Martin Landaluce, with Korda currently chasing a fourth career title.

Success has already been secured this year at the Delray Beach Open, where he beat his countryman Tommy Paul in the final.

The 25-year-old American has a career-high rank of 15th, but currently finds himself 36th in the world, having definitely been impacted by unfortunate injury woes.

While he certainly won’t be looking beyond impressive youngster Landaluce in the round of 16, Korda may just be confident of a lengthy run in Miami.

But that won’t be easy, with Taylor Fritz and Jannik Sinner among his potential opponents along the way to the title.
