Rafael Nadal has stated what his plans are after the Olympic Games while also confirming his next tournament.
The Spaniard has played sparingly this year due to injury and has hinted that 2024 may be the final season of his illustrious career.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion has suffered numerous physical issues throughout his playing days and at age 38 they are becoming more difficult to overcome.
After Nadal competes at the Paris Olympic Games there is just one tournament he has committed to playing in, and it’s not the US Open.
What are Rafael Nadal’s plans after the Paris Olympic Games?
Nadal has expressed his desire to play in what is likely to be his final Olympic Games this year, especially with the tennis event being held at Roland Garros, the scene of his 14 French Open wins.
The former World number one is aiming for his second Olympic gold medal after claiming the title in 2008 at the age of just 22.
Once that campaign is complete Nadal plans to take a break from a tennis before playing at the event of the Laver Cup.
“Nothing is linear in this life. There are moments and states, which usually go according to physical states,” Nadal told reporters.
“I try to enjoy and live what I feel at every moment, always with a positive vision of what my day-to-day life is within my possibilities.
“After here I will take some time to think carefully about what I need for myself as a person, what I really want to do. I’ll play the Laver Cup.”

Will Rafael Nadal play at the US Open?
The Laver Cup is set to take place from September 20-22 in Germany, which commences just under two weeks following the conclusion of the US Open.
Though he has been included on the entry list, Nadal has not guaranteed he will play at the US Open and it currently seems unlikely that he will given the above comments.
When asked about playing the US Open while at the Norda Open in Bastad, Nadal said: “I needed to book to have the chance to decide after that, that’s as simple as that. Nothing changed for me. I’m going to decide what’s going to happen after the Olympics.
“By the way, I will be playing in the Laver Cup but I am, to be clear, and to not create false expectations, I am not sure at all whether to be in New York or not. No decision today and the decision will not happen before the end of the Olympics.”
