Rafael Nadal sent a message to fans about his doubles partnership with Carlos Alcaraz at the Paris Olympic Games.

Two Spanish players from different generations will join forces to try and win some coveted hardware for their nation.

Nadal is set to play in his final Olympic Games while Alcaraz is ready to play at the prestigious event for the first time in his career.

The tennis world was buzzing with excitement when it was announced Spain’s two most successful male players would combine to form a dream partnership.

But the 22-time Grand Slam champion has urged fans not to get too excited regarding their chances of winning the gold medal.

Both Nadal and Alcaraz have expressed their excitement to play with one another at the Paris Olympic Games.

However, they have not played any doubles matches together and are using the following few days to practice before the competition begins.

As a result, Nadal has warned fans to lower their expectations and stressed that seeing two great players together does not always make for an effective team.

“I’m very excited to play with the best player in the world in the doubles,” the 38-year-old told Eurosport Spain.

“I understand people are curious to see us playing together,” he said. “But that does not mean we will be a success.”

What are Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz’s doubles records?

Nadal has an impressive doubles record given his excellent singles résumé. The former World number one has won 146 matches while losing just 76, and has 11 doubles titles to his name.

Arguably his biggest doubles title came at the 2016 Rio Olympics, when he won the gold medal alongside Marc Lopez.

His most recent doubles action came with Casper Ruud at the Swedish Open. The pair reached the semi-finals but Nadal withdrew to focus solely on the singles, where he reached the final.

Alcaraz on the other hand, has very little experience in doubles matches. The four-time Grand Slam singles champion has contested just six doubles matches in his career, and emerged victorious on three occasions.
