Patrick Mouratoglou says Carlos Alcaraz needs to get on the same page as Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in one key area.
The 21-year-old began his summer in scintillating fashion by becoming just the sixth player in history to win the French Open and Wimbledon back-to-back.
But since Alcaraz suffered defeat to Novak Djokovic in the Olympic final, his form has drastically dipped. He then suffered the upset of the season at the US Open when Botic van de Zandschulp beat him in the second round.
The World number three is now trying to get back on track and Mouratoglou knows how he can achieve that.
How does Patrick Mouratoglou think Carlos Alcaraz can learn from Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic?
Carlos Alcaraz feels as though he has taken a step back mentally following his results since he came agonisingly close to becoming Olympic champion.
He also admitted feeling worn down both mentally and physically with the hectic summer and relentless schedule that now sees him playing the Davis Cup just two weeks after his US Open exit.
But as he tries to get back on track, Patrick Mouratoglou, the former coach of Serena Williams, thinks he needs to learn from Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer regarding how to manage his emotions and his schedule as he goes further into his prime years on tour.
“He was exhausted, mentally exhausted. I am not surprised that he is saying that he had so many thoughts and so many emotions that he couldn’t deal with,” the Frenchman said.
“That is exactly the consequence of someone who is emotionally drained. He’s very, very emotional. We’ve seen him cramp many times already.
“If you look at Roger, Rafa, and Novak, have you seen them cramp once in a match? All their careers? He cramped many times already, only at 20. He’s an emotional player.
“So I think that knowing that, in the future, they will have to think of a calendar where he has enough rest – mental rest, not physical rest. Mental rest. I think it is very important for his future.”

Carlos Alcaraz returned to winning ways at the Davis Cup
Alcaraz beat Tomas Machac at the Davis Cup in what was his first match since his second round exit from the US Open.
Their match had just gone into a deciding set when the Czech star retired from the match due to injury.
Alcaraz then partnered with Spanish teammate Marcel Granollers to play his first doubles match since competing alongside Nadal at the Paris Olympics.
They outlasted Jukub Mensik and Adam Pavlasek 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-7(2) to help Spain win 3-0 in their first Davis Cup group stage match this week. Their next group contest will take place against France.
