Novak Djokovic recently featured in an episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored to discuss his career.

Djokovic was asked if he is the greatest player of all time, but refused to give Morgan a clear answer out of ‘respect’ for Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

The Serb also admitted Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are simply ‘better’ than him now, stating that it is ‘not easy to accept’.

Though Djokovic spoke candidly throughout most of the interview, he was guarded when asked some questions, particularly around his finances.

He did, however, reveal that he once turned down a large sponsorship deal from a big drinks brand due to personal beliefs, which Serena Williams‘ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, had high praise for.

In a post on Instagram, Mouratoglou said: “This is why I like Novak so much and I’ve always said it. He’s a true person.

“Money will never make him do something that he doesn’t believe in. ‘Oh, but it’s easy for him to do that because he makes so much money’. Most of the guys who make the same amounts of money don’t turn down deals for personal beliefs.

“Secondly, don’t believe that people who have a lot of money don’t want a lot more money. He is one of the only guys for whom money is not a value, which is difficult to say for a lot of people.

“When you’re in tennis for 20 years, you earn nothing. And suddenly, because of all these 20 years of work, you can make money.

“When you are 35, your career is over. You have to find another way to make money, which is not easy. So it makes sense for them to make as much money as they can during that short window that they have of maybe 10 to 15 years.”

Money is not an incentive for Novak Djokovic in the twilight of his career

Djokovic had amassed an incredible amount of wealth over the years, $191,252,375 of which has come solely from ATP prize money.

While Djokovic has raked in another $5,127,245 in 2025 from making deep runs a big events, it is clear that money is not an incentive for him anymore.

Tennis-wise, the 38-year-old’s sole focus is clinching a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title, which he has been attempting for two years now.

With Sinner and Alcaraz in the way, he may never achieve the feat, but it will always be impossible to count Djokovic out on the biggest stages.
