Patrick McEnroe shared what he noticed about Novak Djokovic from his practice session.
The Serbian will commence his US Open campaign on Monday night as he goes in search of a 25th Grand Slam title.
The 37-year-old is aiming to become the first man since Roger Federer in 2008 to successfully defend the last major of the season.
Djokovic is full of confidence of becoming Olympic champion and is hard at work preparing to have another strong campaign in New York.
What did Patrick McEnroe notice about Novak Djokovic’s US Open practice session?
Since arriving in New York Djokovic has conducted several practice sessions as he bids to be in the best shape to try and win his first Grand Slam title of the year.
He has conducted training sessions with some of his peers such as Alexander Zverev, and also had his own training sessions where he focuses on particular aspects of his game in great detail.
This is what McEnroe noticed after he managed to catch a glimpse of Djokovic on the practice court, and explained exactly what he was doing which explains why he achieve so much on the sport.
“I was getting a sneak peak at Novak Djokovic right behind us practicing. This guy is meticulously analysing his return of serve, his serve, he has the guy with the video, taking the videos and then he’s literally analysing the smallest move with his arm,” McEnroe told ESPN.
“This is one of the reasons why, other than the pure unbelievable talent, that he is still doing what he is doing now.
“This attention to detail that he still has, still trying to do everything he can to be the best he can. After winning the gold, that was the one thing he was looking for, but it seems like he is still hungry.”
Who is Novak Djokovic playing at the US Open?
Djokovic will commence his US Open campaign against Moldova’s Radu Albot.
This will be the veteran’s 10th appearance in the main draw at the season’s second hard court major of the year.
The 34-year-old needed three sets to win each of his qualifying matches and his reward is a main draw first round match against the World number two.
This will be the first meeting between the pair and it will take place under the lights inside Arthur Ashe Stadium.
