A two-time Wimbledon finalist has announced her 2024 season has come to an end.

Ons Jabeur began the year ranked inside the top 10 but injuries have dogged her throughout the campaign.

The 30-year-old failed to make an impact at the Grand Slams and has since fallen out of the WTA’s top 10.

WIth the tour now into its final two months of the season, the Tunisian has made a big decision with 2025 in mind.

Ons Jabeur chooses to end her 2024 season early due to injury

Since suffering a third round exit at Wimbledon in July, Jabeur has played just one match.

That came at the Canadian Open, where Naomi Osaka completed a comprehensive straight-set victory for the loss of just four games.

After withdrawing from the Cincinnati Open and US Open events, Jabeur has announced she will no longer play this season to take time to recover in time for the 2025 Australian Open.

“Due to my ongoing shoulder injury, my medical team and I’ve made the difficult decision to step off the tennis circuit for the rest of the season,” she posted on Instagram.

“While I’m taking time to heal, I’ll be dedicating myself to charity work and ensuring that we make a real difference in the world. Thank you for all your support, and I can’t wait to come back stronger! And I will see you back on the court in Australia 2025.”

What injuries did Ons Jabeur sustain in 2024?

Jabeur, the former World number two, spent most of 2024 dealing with a recurring knee injury.

It forced her to pull out of the WTA Dubai tournament in February during a period in which she lost four successive matches.

Things started to improve for Jabeur as made the quarter-finals in three out of four tournaments at the end of the clay season into the grass court season.

But once again a knee problem forced her to miss the Olympic Games, before a shoulder issue limited her to just one match over the North American hard court swing.
