US Open fans were devastated to hear that a former finalist at the tournament will not compete in 2024.

The final Grand Slam of the season is almost here and the players are desperate to taste success at Flushing Meadows.

Each competitor now knows who they will commence their campaign against after the draw took place on Thursday.

But there is one player that will not take to the US Open courts this year and that is the 2022 finalist Ons Jabeur.

Ons Jabeur left fans devastated after pulling out of the US Open

Jabeur has struggled with injury this season and it has now forced her to make a late withdrawal from the US Open, the tournament’s website announced.

The Tunisian was seeded number 17 in the draw and was due to face take on Veronika Kudermetova in the opening round.

Elise Mertens will now become the No.33 seed after taking Jabeur’s spot and will face Kudermetova instead. Saddened fans flocked to social media platform X to send their well wishes to Jabeur following her injury withdrawal.

User @carolynhoran said: “Sending all the good healing vibes for a quick recovery, Ons!” while @coisinha59 posted: “Sad to read this. Take care and get well soon, Ons!!!”

@WeeNelson1 added: “I’m so sorry. Get well soon, Ons – you’ll be missed,” while @USACannibal said: “It’s okay Ons. Recover and come back stronger next season.”

User @deb_schiel said: “That’s sad..I will miss seeing you play @Ons_Jabeur,” and @janetlcam said: “So sorry to hear this Ons. Wishing you a fast recovery!”

What injuries has Ons Jabeur sustained in 2024?

After having a solid 2023 in which she reached her second successive Wimbledon final, Jabeur has been blighted by injury in 2024.

A chronic knee problem forced Jabeur out of the Dubai Open in February, and she missed the vast majority of North American summer hard court swing as a right shoulder issue meant Jabeur missed the Citi and Cincinnati Open events.

She last played at the Canadian Open on August 7 and Jabeur lost 6-3, 6-1 to four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka.

It remains to be seen if Jabeur will be able to return to action before the end of the season or if she will end her year and concentrate on returning to full fitness for 2025.
