Ons Jabeur has laid out her comeback plans for next year after an injury-hampered 2024.
Ons Jabeur, known for her creativity and warm personality on the WTA Tour, has experienced an unfortunate recent dip in form and success.
The three-time Grand Slam finalist has weathered some difficult defeats throughout her career, with heartbreak in the Wimbledon final striking twice in 2022 and 2023.
The Tunisian, once ranked as high as world number two, withdrew from the US Open due to a lingering shoulder injury, after having also sat out of the Olympics.
This same issue also sidelined her from the China Open in September. At that time, Jabeur announced she would be ending her season early to focus on recovery.
Ons Jabeur gives important fitness update ahead of 2025 season
Jabeur has spent much of 2024 managing a recurring knee injury that has disrupted her season.
This knee issue first forced her to withdraw from the WTA tournament in Dubai back in February and contributed to a string of four consecutive losses.
However, during her transition from clay to grass, Jabeur seemed to regain her form, reaching the quarterfinals in three out of four events before the injury returned before the Olympics.
Adding to her challenges, a shoulder injury restricted her to just one match during the North American hard-court season.
Despite these setbacks, Jabeur, the most successful Arab player in tennis history, remains a visible ambassador for the growth of women’s tennis across the Middle East and Africa, and has recently appeared at the WTA Finals.

Reflecting on her time away from the tour, she said, via Arab News: “I had time to rest my shoulder, I’m feeling much better than before. It allowed me to also recover mentally.
“It’s been a tough couple of years going on tour, so to breathe in for a couple of months was really awesome and I can’t wait to come back in Australia.
“I’m ready and very motivated and honestly hungry to play matches. I feel 2025 is going to be an amazing year.”

Ons Jabeur deserves all the success in 2025
Ons Jabeur has been right on the cusp of major success but just hasn’t managed to seal the deal.
At the US Open, she faced the relentless power of Iga Swiatek, who simply outgunned her. Wimbledon, too, slipped away as unseeded Marketa Vondrousova’s fairytale run took her to the title in 2023.
Jabeur’s style, though, remains one of the most innovative on the tour; her creative shot-making and unique flair make her a constant threat.
With Karolina Muchova’s dynamic play proving successful in her comeback this season, it’s clear there’s still room for Jabeur’s skilful and unconventional game to shine.
As 2025 approaches, Jabeur deserves every bit of the success that has eluded her so far.
