Novak Djokovic’s 2026 schedule is starting to take shape…

The Serbian star will play a tournament before the Australian Open, when Djokovic competes at the Adelaide International in January.

After the Australian Open, Djokovic could travel to South America for Serbia’s Davis Cup tie against Chile.

If Djokovic were to make a rare trip to Latin America, fans wouldn’t want to miss out on a chance to see the 24-time Grand Slam champion in action.

Who is the greatest male tennis player of all time?

Looking to bring Djokovic to his event, one ATP 250 tournament director had this to say.

Argentina Open tournament director ‘would love’ Novak Djokovic to play in 2026

During a recent press conference, Argentina Open tournament director Martin Jaite shared his thoughts on Djokovic’s potential appearance.

“If Djokovic comes to play the Davis Cup in Chile, of course, we would love for him to come play our tournament,” he said.

“It’s not something that depends on us.”

Djokovic has never played the South American ‘golden swing’ events before, as he prefers the hard-court tournaments in Europe and the Middle East.

In 2025, Djokovic played the Qatar Open, where he lost to Matteo Berrettini in his opening match.

It’s unlikely that Djokovic will change his schedule in 2026, but logically, he would be more likely to play events such as the Argentina Open and Rio Open if he is already in South America.

Therefore, a lot rides on whether or not Djokovic will actually join his Serbian teammates for their Davis Cup qualifying tie against Chile.

Djokovic’s participation in Buenos Aires is far from being confirmed, but who has been announced for the 2026 tournament?

Sitting next to the tournament director during the press conference, Argentine number one Francisco Cerundolo was always going to compete at his home tournament.

He’ll be joined by the likes of Matteo Berrettini and Gael Monfils, the latter of whom will compete in South America one final time, as he is set to retire in 2026.

It remains to be seen whether the defending champion Joao Fonseca will return in 2026, although South American fans certainly hope he will make an appearance.

Fonseca took the tennis world by storm this year, and led many to believe he could one day be the man to challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

Who will join Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in a new ‘big three’?

He won his first tour-level title at the Argentina Open, beating the home-favorite Cerundolo in the final.

Only time will tell if he or Djokovic will play in Buenos Aires next year…

How many ATP 250 events did Novak Djokovic play this year?

Djokovic has repeatedly said his focus is on winning Grand Slams, although that didn’t stop him from playing the ‘smaller’ tournaments in 2025.

This year, he competed in the Brisbane International, Geneva Open, and Hellenic Championships, winning the titles in Switzerland and Greece.

Those title wins saw Djokovic clear the 100-mark, edging closer to Jimmy Connors’ record.

If Djokovic were to win nine more titles, he’d become the most successful player (in title wins) in the Open Era.

Aged 38, it’s unlikely that Djokovic will win nine titles at the Grand Slam or Masters 1000 level, which may increase the likelihood of the Serb signing up for ATP 250 tournaments.

That could be good news for Jaite and the Argentina Open…

The 2026 Argentina Open in Buenos Aires is scheduled to begin on Monday, February 9.
