Novak Djokovic described his relationship with Holger Rune after beating him at the Wimbledon Championships.

The pair faced one another for the first time in 2024 and it was one-way traffic for the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

He dropped just nine games on the way to securing his fourth victory against the 21-year-old and his now into the quarter-finals of the All-England Club for the 15th time.

Djokovic then gave a controversial post-match interview in which he expressed his anger toward those who were cheering for his opponent.

What did Novak Djokovic say about Holger Rune?

Rune has been through a challenging season and he rallied from two sets down to ensure he faced Djokovic at SW19.

A victory over the World number two would have provided home with a confidence boost. But despite his best efforts, the 37-year-old was too strong and sailed into the last eight.

Despite his ruthless performance against the Dane, Djokovic described the good relationship he has with him. “I get along very well with him,” he said post-match.

“He is a very nice guy, always has been to me and my team. I try to be available for him for any advice, practice or guidance. I remember him since he was very young. His game style is very similar to mine”.

Novak Djokovic produces best performance at Wimbledon so far as he reaches quarter-finals

After coming through two tight four set matches, Djokovic was in mood to waste any time against Rune. He asserted his authority from the outset and controlled his fourth round battle from start to finish.

The second seed was very impressive behind his serve where he won 75% of first serves and 72% following his second delivery, which was at the foundation of his excellent display.

He only faced two break points which were easily dealt with and Djokovic completed the victory in two hours and three minutes.

“I am very pleased. I don’t think he played close to his best to be honest. It was a tough start for him,” he said. “He lost the first 12 points and I think that got to him mentally.

“Waiting all day to come onto the court is not easy. The tension is building up every hour and you feel more and more tense and stressed.

“On my end, I think I did things the right way in the right moments. I stayed solid. I faced a couple of break points. Things could have looked different if I had dropped my service games but a very solid performance in the end and I am glad to get through in three sets.”
