Novak Djokovic may not have added to his long list of Wimbledon titles this year, but he can be very proud of his efforts.

The seven-time champion must now continue his search for that elusive eighth title next time out after losing to Carlos Alcaraz.

It will be a case of deja vu for the Serbian, with the Spaniard having also beaten Djokovic in last year’s final.

This time around, however, it was a much more straightforward victory for Alcaraz, who eased past the veteran in straight sets.

Despite the win and indeed the nature of it, the Spaniard maintains the utmost respect for his recent opponent, with Alcaraz saying it was ‘unbelievable’ how Djokovic played at Wimbledon after just undergoing knee surgery.

What did Novak Djokovic say to Kate Middleton at the Wimbledon final?

As always, many high-profile names were in attendance at the All England Club, taking in the action on Centre Court.

Among them was Princess of Wales Kate Middleton, who met with Djokovic, with the Serbian now revealing details of their conversation.

“It was a privilege to be in her presence again and I have said to her it’s nice to see her in good health,” Djokovic said in his final Wimbledon press conference.

“She seems to be in good health so that’s positive news for everyone in this country, but also for Wimbledon, to have her Royal Highness here, with her family members. It’s amazing. It’s incredible support they have been giving over the years to this tournament.

“I know she and her sister have played tennis for a very long time so they truly respect and admire the game.

“They also understand tennis, which is great. It’s wonderful to have that kind of support from the Royal Family.”

Star names react as Carlos Alcaraz beats Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon

Djokovic made a stunning recovery to make the tournament, having just withdrawn from the French Open due to a knee injury.

Alcaraz won that competition in Paris, with the Spanish star immediately following up the success in London.

He was in blistering form from the very first point on Centre Court, with his pace and tactics simply blowing Djokovic away.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion will be disappointed with his efforts, but he does remain grateful to have made it so far at Wimbledon.

The victor meanwhile has been the centre of attention since clinching his fourth Grand Slam title, with high-profile names such as David Beckham and Juan Martin del Potro messaging Alcaraz after he won Wimbledon.
