Novak Djokovic has secured his spot in the second round of the US Open after knocking out Learner Tien in round one.
Djokovic last played at Wimbledon before entering the US Open, where he started with a tricky test against American Tien.
But four-time champion Djokovic made no mistake against the ATP number 50, winning their match 6-1, 7-6(7-3), 6-2.
Tien, who has been working with former world number two Michael Chang, has four top 10 wins in the 2025 season.
But he was unable to record another against world number seven, having caused a huge stir at the Australian Open by knocking out 2024 runner-up Daniil Medvedev.

Novak Djokovic sends message about US Open crowd after first round win
The seventh seed at Flushing Meadows, Djokovic now takes on American qualifier Zachary Svajda in round two.
Before that, however, the Serbian legend has taken to social media to celebrate his first round success at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Djokovic wrote on Instagram: “Back under Ashe lights. First time Sunday start for me. Crowd electric and loud as always. New York, you never disappoint. Thank you for the support. Idemo.”
Novak Djokovic shares ‘concern’ after US Open first round match
Emma Raducanu loved the US Open crowd in her opener, having also played and won at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The British number one, who won the hard-court Grand Slam in 2021, defeated Ena Shibahara in the first round.
The US Open fans have already been treated to plenty of exciting matches, with Djokovic among the players safely into the hat for round two.
The 38-year-old did, however, issue a somewhat worrying update following his win, saying: “Well, I started great.
“Then some long games in the second set, I started to feel really… I was really surprised how bad I was feeling in the second physically.
“Good thing is that I have two days off. It’s slightly a concern. I don’t have an injury or anything. I just struggled to stay in long exchanges and recover after points.”
Djokovic and indeed many fans will be desperate that he is simply just getting his body going after a lengthy absence, rather than facing any real concern.
The veteran, who made his main draw debut at the event all the way back in 2005, has won the US Open in 2011, 2015, 2018 and 2023.
