Novak Djokovic stormed into round two at Wimbledon and his surgically-repaired knee showed no signs of slowing him down.

Not many expected the Serbian to even be at the All-England Club given the torn meniscus that forced him to pull out of the French Open in June.

Despite having an operation to fix the issue less than a month ago, the 37-year-old looked serene on Centre Court as he brushed aside qualifier Vit Kopriva.

There was plenty of uncertainty surrounding the former World number one before the tournament began but those thoughts have been well and truly banished.

What did Novak Djokovic do for the first time since his knee surgery?

Djokovic maintained his unbeaten record in first round matches at Wimbledon following a 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 in one-hour and 58 minutes.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion won 90% of points behind his first serve and committed just 16 unforced errors throughout the match.

His movement looked imperious and though Djokovic did not appear to be playing with any limitations, he was nervous about sliding on the grass courts. However, he tried it once during the match despite not trying it out in practice.

“There were a couple of points when I broke him in the second set, I did one slide,” Djokovic told reporters post match. “That was the first slide of the grass court season for me. I hadn’t done it, even in the practice set. That was a great test.

“After that I felt happy that I did it because in a way you feel mentally hesitant to do those extreme movements but knowing I can do it is very comforting and positive.”

Who will Novak Djokovic play in the second round of Wimbledon?

Following his dominant win Djokovic booked his spot in round two against British wildcard Jacob Fearnley.

The 22-year-old defeated Spain’s Alejandro Moro Canas in straight sets to win his very first match at a Grand Slam.

He will now compete in the biggest match of his career on Thursday and Djokovic is ready to continue his quest for a 25th major. “I was very pleased with the way I moved on the court today,” he said on-court.

“Obviously coming into Wimbledon this year, it was a little bit of a different circumstance for me because of the knee. I didn’t know how everything was going to unfold on the court really. Practice sessions are quite different to official match play, so I’m just extremely glad about the way I played and the way I felt today.”
