Novak Djokovic has soared into the third round of Wimbledon after knocking out home favourite Dan Evans in straight sets.

Former ATP number one Djokovic beat former British number one Evans 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 on Centre Court in one hour and 47 minutes.

Djokovic has now reached Wimbledon round three 19 times, with his fellow Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic awaiting next up.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion is seeking an eighth Wimbledon title this month, which would level him with all-time leader Roger Federer.

He edged past Alexandre Muller in his first round match at the All England Club, in which Djokovic overcame illness to secure the win.

And the veteran has now shared an update on his fitness following his win over Evans, with Djokovic saying in his post-match press conference: “It’s true last year particularly in the early rounds I was doubting whether the knee would hold up or if I was able to slide or do my movement as freely as I want.

“This year, obviously, I am not. Neither do I have any other major physical issues to think about. Of course, there is always something you address minorly but overall body is in a very good shape.
