When asked what it means to reach the third round for the 19th time at Wimbledon, Djokovic said: “It means I have been playing quite a long time!

“19 times, that’s a great stat. It’s probably almost as much as Sinner and Alcaraz have years in their life!

“This sport has given me so much and I have said this a million times before, but Wimbledon remains the most special tournament in my career and the one I dreamed of winning as a kid.

“So any history made here is obviously extra special for me. It’s the beginning of the tournament so I am aware of history on the line, and I am very privileged to be able to do that, but I am thinking of the big things available at the tournament.”

Novak Djokovic gives praise to Dan Evans after beating him at Wimbledon

Djokovic said of the match: “I think everyone knew it was going to be a special atmosphere on the court.

“A Brit in Britain is never easy to face and he is a tricky, maybe that’s not a great word, but he’s a good quality player who possesses a lot of talent and a lot of great touch for the grass.

“Obviously, where the ball stays low, with his slice, he can cause a lot of trouble with you if you are not on the top of your game, which I think I was from the very beginning.

“That was necessary. I knew that. I was preparing well for the match technically and tactically, and I executed perfectly.

“Sometimes you have those kind of days. [Crowd laughs] It was not for me! It was for my coach. I was sending him a message in case he didn’t see it very well!

“But you have these days where everything goes your way and flows, and it’s good to be in your shoes and holding a racket on days like this, no question about it.”

Djokovic will now play compatriot Miomir Kecmanovic in the third round of the championships.
