Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz have quickly become fierce rivals, with the duo going head to head in the Olympic final.

Alcaraz and Djokovic only just met in the Wimbledon final, with the Spaniard winning in straight sets at the All England Club.

Djokovic named Alcaraz the favourite for the Olympic final, which was unsurprising after the latter’s wins at Wimbledon and indeed the French Open.

The Serbian was forced to withdraw from Roland Garros earlier this year, with his newly-formed rival lifting the trophy for the first time.

Alcaraz focused on himself going into the Olympic final, trying his best to ignore all the noise surrounding his latest achievement.

Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz make Olympic tennis history

He and Rafael Nadal are the only male players to win the French Open, Wimbledon and an Olympic singles medal in the same year.

And according to the Olympic Games on X, Alcaraz has now broken another record, becoming the youngest player to play in the Olympic men’s singles final, with his opponent Djokovic becoming the oldest.

Can Carlos Alcaraz reach Novak Djokovic in Grand Slam list?

The historic gold medal match in Paris saw experience take on youth, with Djokovic aged 37 and Alcaraz aged just 21.

But despite the varying stages of their careers, they know each other well, having met six times on the court.

And fittingly the rivalry was evenly matched ahead of their Olympic final clash, with three victories apiece.

Djokovic is, however, unsurprisingly well ahead in terms of Grand Slam titles, having won 24 in his stunning career.

But Alcaraz may just be eyeing that tally in years to come, with the youngster already boasting four major wins.
