Nick Kyrgios remains a significant figure on the ATP Tour both on and off the court despite his injury issues.

Kyrgios is missing Wimbledon due to injury, and last made an appearance on the ATP Tour at the Miami Open in March.

He beat qualifier Mackenzie McDonald in his opener in Miami before falling to 22nd seed Karen Khachanov.

Kyrgios plans to play US Open mixed doubles in New York later this year, where he will partner WTA star Naomi Osaka.

But Wimbledon is up next in the Grand Slam calendar, a tournament on which the injured Kyrgios commentated last year.

A repeat of that commentary has, however, been ruled out this time around, with the controversial Australian now sharing his verdict on that snub.

He told The Guardian: “I know I’m a great commentator. All I’ve done for 20 years is play, study and breathe this sport.

“I also think tennis needs commentators who say things that not everyone says. It’s unfortunate but it’s probably their loss more than mine. I understand they’ve got Chris Eubanks but he hasn’t beaten the greatest of all time multiple times.

“When someone’s beaten [Roger] Federer, [Rafael] Nadal, [Andy] Murray and [Novak] Djokovic and has incredible insights, it’s very strange you wouldn’t want that person adding knowledge to tennis fans.

“I’m sure our paths will cross again. I only ever want to add humour, some knowledge and some great atmosphere.”

Nick Kyrgios says why he doesn’t always feel ‘so comfortable’ at Wimbledon

As he mentioned, Kyrgios certainly doesn’t hold back in his tennis opinions, with many fans enjoying such an approach.

Others have, however, undoubtedly found his views controversial to say the least, with his brash nature having also been evident on the court for many years.

It was then perhaps a surprise that a tournament as traditional and prestigious as Wimbledon brought him on board last year.

But they have decided against such a decision this time around, with current world number 108 Eubanks now in the hot seat.

Kyrgios certainly has mixed views on the grass court Grand Slam, with a Wimbledon runner-up spot in 2022 among his career achievements.

Discussing the London-based tournament, the seven-time ATP winner said: “Wimbledon holds special memories for me.

“It’s the first Grand Slam where I broke through and it’s the pinnacle of tennis. Every time you step into the grounds you feel the energy and the aura.

“But I don’t always feel so comfortable there either because I don’t act like the normal tennis player. Wimbledon takes note of that a lot. I definitely feel like a snowman in the desert there but I enjoy it.”
