Nick Kyrgios is seemingly nearing a return to competitive action after his lengthy lay-off due to injury.

Knee and wrist issues have meant Kyrgios hasn’t played competitively since last summer’s Stuttgart Open, where he lost in the first round to Wu Yibing.

The Australian did, however, make a recent appearance on the court prior to the recent US Open, where Kyrgios partnered with Naomi Osaka in an exhibition match.

But he has been largely limited to media duties, with the 2022 Wimbledon finalist commentating on several events during his injury lay-off.

Kyrgios has definitely been enjoying that experience, but it looks like there is still some tennis left to be played by the 29-year-old.

Nick Kyrgios says when he plans to make competitive comeback

Kyrgios recently shared footage of a practice session, but has now shared his plans for a competitive return to the court.

As per Olly Tennis, Kyrgios said on an Instagram Live that he is confident of playing at the 2025 Australian Open, while he also plans to play a few events before it gets underway.

Will Nick Kyrgios make a fitting return at the Australian Open?

Kyrgios may not be the most loved player on the ATP Tour, but the controversial Australian is certainly one of the most entertaining.

And Australian Open fans would love nothing more than to see their hero finally return to action in Melbourne in January.

Kyrgios once reached number 13 in the world rankings, with his best Grand Slam singles performance coming in that 2022 Wimbledon final.

He put up a superb fight against Novak Djokovic back then, but the Serbian emerged victorious 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(7-3).

Another Grand Slam final seems very unlikely for the injury-plagued Kyrgios, but he will simply be delighted about being able to participate in another major event given his injury troubles.
