Nick Kyrgios played doubles with Naomi Osaka at the US Open and saw the funny side as he explained why they were losing.
Before the Japanese player competes at the final Grand Slam of the year, she joined forces with the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up.
The pair teamed up to face the American pair of Taylor Fritz and Canadian Open finalist Amanda Anisimova at the US Open Mixed Madness exhibition event.
They certainly had fun playing alongside one another but the result of the match did not go their way.
What did Nick Kyrgios say during his US Open doubles match with Naomi Osaka?
Naomi Osaka and Nick Kyrgios took on Anisimova and Fritz in a one-set shootout inside a packed Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The four-time Grand Slam singles champion and 2022 Australian Open men’s doubles winner wore Kobe Bryant jerseys as they entered the court to a raucous response from the fans.
They had microphones on as the crowd and viewers around the world could hear how they were communicating with each other.
They lost the set 6-2 but during the contest, Kyrgios had an explanation for why he and Osaka were being outperformed.
“There’s only so much we can do but we can bounce back quickly,” he said during a changeover.
“Don’t forget we’re the only team mic’d up out here so we’re playing with a bit of a disadvantage but I’ll guarantee we’ll break back we’ll be right back in it.”

Is Nick Kyrgios playing at the US Open?
Though Kyrgios played a mixed doubles exhibition match with Osaka, he will not be competing in the main draw of the US Open.
The Australian has played just one match since the start of 2023 and since then he has undergone wrist and knee surgeries.
During that time he has entered the realm of podcasting, presenting and Kyrgios was also a commentator for the BBC during the Wimbledon Championships.
There was doubt if he would ever play again, but now he is playing exhibitions, a return to competitive action may not be too far away.
