Rafael Nadal has made a huge decision about which tournaments he is going to play in the near future.

Andy Roddick thinks Nadal won’t play another French Open, with the Spaniard having just played at Roland Garros at the Olympics.

Nadal suffered a second round singles loss and quarter-finals doubles loss in Paris, with his sights now set on the Laver Cup.

He has decided against competing at the US Open later this month, explaining that his fitness levels would not be at their highest.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion has struggled with injury in recent times, with Nadal recently missing Wimbledon in order to make the Olympics.

He has now taken a similar decision regarding the US Open and Laver Cup, leading to criticism from one X user, who wrote: “A fully fit Nadal has withdrawn from the US Open but will play in the Laver Cup a couple weeks after the US Open with a huge appearance fee.”

Nadal’s fellow professional Nick Kyrgios, who is currently out injured, has defended the decision, saying: “Can’t be upset at players taking money bro.”

What is Rafael Nadal’s history at the US Open?

Nadal wowed fans at Roland Garros with his displays at the Olympics, having shone alongside Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s doubles.

Kyrgios wants the Olympics to be a team event, with the Australian in agreement with former player John Isner.

Four-time US Open champion Nadal will certainly be missed in New York, with the Spaniard close to calling time on his stunning career.

He has only appeared once at the competition since 2019, where he lifted the trophy after beating Daniil Medvedev.

A fourth round exit was suffered in 2022, with Nadal having favoured the likes of the French Open and Australian Open in recent years.
