Andy Roddick has speculated on whether Rafael Nadal will play at the French Open again.
The great Spaniard played at the 2024 French Open and the Olympic Games which was also held at Roland Garros.
The venue has been the scene of many of Nadal’s fondest moments throughout his career as he holds a record 14 French Open titles.
Now aged 38, the 22-time Grand Slam champion is edging closer and closer to hanging up his racket and his future beyond the Laver Cup in September is unclear.
Does Andy Roddick think Rafael Nadal will play at the French Open again?
One of the reasons Rafael Nadal was so desperate to play at the Olympics was to have another chance to play at Roland Garros.
Following Nadal’s Nadal’s Olympic Games quarter-final defeat alongside Carlos Alcaraz, he received a standing ovation from the thousands in attendance.
Nadal’s next confirmed event is the Laver Cup in Germany, but his schedule is unknown for the rest of the year and beyond. With his future up in the air, Andy Roddick debated whether the former World number one will be back at the clay court Grand Slam in 2025.
“Rafa is going to play the Laver Cup. This was his last guaranteed, I’m playing as a player, he told us that much afterwards,” Roddick said during an episode of his ‘Served’ Podcast.
“It got consumed by the rest of the Olympics. Is this the last time we see Rafa play for consequence? I don’t know.
“My guess is that I find it hard to believe that he is going to ramp up and make another run at the French Open but I have been wrong about him before and any analyst is just guessing.”

What has Rafael Nadal said about his tennis future?
After carrying the Olympic torch in the opening ceremony, Nadal lost to great rival Novak Djokovic in the second round of the singles event.
He made it to the last eight of the doubles with Alcaraz but they suffered defeat to the American pair of Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek. Nadal has now returned home and told IB3 TV that he will take some time out before deciding his next move.
“It is time to rest, to take some time and in a few days to assess everything that has happened during these months and to figure out what I really want. The event is different from the circuit and I have enjoyed it as much as I could,” he said.
“It has been a fun, positive week, it has not ended the way I wanted, but this is sport. I have not been at the level I needed to fight for medals and in the doubles we have not been successful.”
