Nick Kyrgios has expressed his desire to embark on a coaching journey with two current ATP players once his playing days are over.

Following an imposing 2022 season, which included a spectacular run to the Wimbledon final, the Australian has grappled with wrist, knee and foot injuries.

The 29-year-old has been limited to just one professional match over the past 20 months but has been fuelled by time spent time working as a co-commentator at this year’s Australian Open and Wimbledon majors, with Kyrgios diligently preparing for his return to full health.

But the seven-time ATP champion believes that he can add value in the coaching box as well as in the commentary booth when he calls a time on his playing career.

Who does Nick Kyrgios want to coach after retirement?

Nick Kyrgios has already hinted at a career in mentoring when he asked world No.1 Jannik Sinner to be his coach following the Italian’s Australian Open triumph in January.

Now, he has issued a more genuine proposal and believes he can add value to Alexander Bublik and Frances Tiafoe’s games.

Speaking on an episode of ‘All on the Table’, Kyrgios said: “I would coach a couple of players, I think I could help [Frances] Tiafoe a lot.”

Kyrgios then turned to Bublik and made him an offer: “When I do come back for another year or two and then retire, I’ll do a grand slam with you for free, let’s see how it goes.

“I promise you I feel like I could help, I can give you some experience, like crazy experience. Like how you feel when you do underarm serves and shit. What other player could you have even a conversation with about that?”

Would Nick Kyrgios be a good coach?

There is no doubt that Kyrgios is an exceptional tennis player, though he has often come unstuck by his attitude to the sport both on and off the court.

The controversial Australian has been accused of not sharing the same hunger and desire as some of his peers, having been very vocal about his decision to hang up his racket in the coming years.

It would be an earlier than usual time to close the chapter on a career, especially as Kyrgios has been reaching his full potential in recent times, notably clinching the 2022 Australian Open doubles title with best friend Thanasi Kokkinakis and taking Novak Djokovic to four sets in the Wimbledon final later that year.

But if Kyrgios were to call time on his playing career, he might just find success working alongside players such as Bublik and Tiafoe, who are good friends with the Aussie away from the game.
