Nick Kyrgios has never been afraid to speak his mind.

He has developed a reputation for being one of the most outspoken and controversial players on the ATP Tour.

On the other hand, at his best, Nick Kyrgios is one of the most dangerous players who can beat anybody on his day.

During his absence from competition, the Australian has been speaking his mind on what he would change about tennis.

Nick Kyrgios outlines the changes he wants to make to tennis

Kyrgios has stressed how he would change tennis on multiple occasions.

He was part of a giant step towards achieving this as his name is attached to the Professional Tennis Players’ Association (PTPA) lawsuit against the sport’s governing bodies in a bid to change the sport.

Kyrgios has once again complained about the tour during an appearance on the Changeover Podcast, branding the it “unprofessional”. Furthermore, and he answered if what he wants from the PTPA lawsuit is going to come into operation any time soon.

“For me it is not going to be any time soon. We work hard, you spend your whole life building to a point of getting paid as an athlete and you are not even getting paid right,” Kyrgios said.

“We are the only sport in the world which doesn’t have an association. Players do not have a voice. There are things like – how can you go to a Grand Slam and lose and the next day your credential doesn’t work for food? Every week there are different balls.

“Imagine playing NBA and you are playing one day in LA and then go to Boston and use another ball. What? It’s so unprofessional.”

“The schedule is way too long. After the US Open there should be no tournaments until the Australian summer. Who is watching Antwerp 250? The crowds are empty. The highlights are embarrassing, the crowds are empty.

“And because it is hard for fans to stay engaged all the time, because they know they can watch it every week. It needs to be shorter. There are too many tournaments, people just don’t show up because they were like I can watch tennis whenever, it’s all year round. It’s ridiculous.”

Nick Kyrgios shares his thoughts on the two-week Masters 1000 events

Some of the current players have shared their views on the extended ATP and WTA 1000 events.

Carlos Alcaraz and Frances Tiafoe are not in favour of the change, while Aryna Sabalenka is in favour of the longer tournaments.

Kyrgios agrees with the WTA’s World number one, and thinks the events worth 250 ranking points should be scrapped.

“I think the two week Masters are good, because the crowds are full and you have the best players in the world,” Kyrgios said.

“I think Grand Slams and Masters events and 500’s. That’s all the tour should be and then exhibitions. That’s it. The other tournaments are not helping the sport in any way.”
