Taylor Fritz is into another Wimbledon quarter-final and this year he will be aiming to reach the last four for the very first time.

He set up a quarter-final with Lorenzo Musetti in some style coming from two sets down to roar back and win the match in five.

Fritz reached the quarter-final at Wimbledon in 2022 but came up against Rafael Nadal in that one and was beaten in five sets.

Annoyingly, Nadal was forced to withdraw after that match, with Nick Kyrgios earning a bye through to the final.

Yesterday, the Australian was watching Fritz reach the last eight as part of his duties on the BBC punditry team.

After the match, he admitted that Fritz did something that really took him by surprise yesterday against Zverev.

It was hard not to be impressed by Fritz after his stunning comeback victory yesterday.

Fritz has the potential and knows all of the shots but at 26 he’s not really done it in the major tournaments just yet.

Kyrgios praised the American for his performance afterwards – believing the player deserved immense praise for his showing.

He said live on BBC One: “Amazing, honestly, if you’d have told me that Taylor Fritz was going to come from two sets to love down today I’d have said it was very slim.

“We know that Zverev has got the big serve but all credit for Taylor to come through that.”

Why can’t Fritz be the player to get the monkey off of his back and lift a Grand Slam for the first time at this year’s Wimbledon?

Okay, so Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and world number one Jannik Sinner will have a say but Fritz has to believe he can win the title.

At 26, the American does have time on his side when it comes to winning one of the big ones but the sooner the better.

Fritz has to keep playing to the level that he’s capable of and coming from two sets down to Zverev should put him in good stead.

The challenge could come mentally but if the player can remain focused and keep playing things one point at a time, he might find himself in the winner’s circle on Sunday.
