Mirra Andreeva could have a target on her back after beating Aryna Sabalenka to win the Indian Wells title.

Andreeva won Indian Wells to extend her winning streak to 12 matches after claiming back-to-back WTA 1000 titles in Dubai and now California.

At just 17-years-old, she is already being tipped to achieve big things and Martina Navratilova has compared Andreeva to Carlos Alcaraz.

Andreeva, who is coached by Conchita Martinez, is the new world number six after winning the biggest title of her career, but could potentially be set for a rude awakening the next time she plays Sabalenka according to some.

Naomi Broady sends warning to Mirra Andreeva after beating Aryna Sabalenka

In the immediate aftermath of Andreeva coming back to beat Sabalenka, 2-6 6-4 6-3, former British number two Naomi Broady reacted to the final on Sky Sports.

Broady in particular praised Andreeva’s defensive skills, but suggested that Sabalenka will be seeking revenge the next time that they play.

“A lovely embrace between the two players at the net,” said Broady. “I think Sabalenka knew just how well Andreeva played today. The defensive skills, goodness me! She can’t believe it.

“But be warned Mirra, Madison Keys beat Sabalenka at the Australian Open and she was vengeance here in the semi-finals. She wiped the floor with her. She does not forgive an forget when you beat her in these matches.”

Although she was able to get the victory in the Indian Wells final, Andreeva has not always enjoyed playing Sabalenka after struggling in the head-to-head.

Does Aryna Sabalenka have a history of getting revenge?

Broady referenced the Indian Wells semi-final between Sabalenka and Madison Keys, when sending a warning to Andreeva, which was their first match since the Australian Open final.

Despite Keys being on a 16-match winning streak at the time, Sabalenka was able to brush aside the Australian Open champion for the loss of just one game.

Sabalenka has not always been able to get revenge after losing big finals, and has actually worsened her head-to-head with Elena Rybakina since losing the 2023 Indian Wells final.

However, both players will need to reach the final once again after they were placed in opposite halves of the draw.
