Mirra Andreeva recalled during the Indian Wells final that made her want to scream at coach Conchita Martinez.

The 17-year-old produced another brilliant performance to win the biggest title of her young career so far.

The Russian recovered from losing the first set to secure a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory in two hours and four minutes on centre court at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

She celebrated with coach Conchita Martinez but there was a moment during the match when she wanted to do the exact opposite.

What did Conchita Martinez do that made Mirra Andreeva want to ‘scream’ at Indian Wells?

Coach Martinez watched from the stands as Mirra Andreeva took on Aryna Sabalenka in the Indian Wells final.

The Spaniard watched her player show resilience and tactical nous as Andreeva came back from a set down to win the title.

Andreeva thanked her team for their part in her success, but at one moment during the three-set thriller, the teenager felt she was receiving too much advice from Martinez, and at one point it really got to her.

“Honestly today I wanted to say that! I was super nervous and she of course tried to cheer me up and bring some energy,” Andreeva told Sky Sports.

“At one point I really thought I was going to scream at her and say please don’t say anything, I got it, it’s okay. But I don’t know, I just can’t, I think out of respect for her. I think it’s a good thing because if I do that maybe my emotions would go a little bit crazy.”

Mirra Andreeva records second career victory over Aryna Sabalenka at Indian Wells

Andreeva’s victory is the biggest of her career so far and she now has three titles to her name at just 17 years of age.

The Indian Wells final marks the first time Andreeva has beaten Sabalenka since the 2024 French Open.

Post-match, a disappointed Sabalenka assessed her performance and claimed she let Andreeva back into the match after the first set.

“Honestly, was me against me,” Sabalenka said. “I made a lot of unforced errors on important points, and I just let her play a little bit better.

“At the beginning, everything was going quite straightforward, and then I just made a couple mistakes. She kind of believed in herself.

“After that, I started playing much worse, and I was just trying to find my rhythm back but didn’t work this time.”
