Mirra Andreeva is searching for her third title of 2025 at the Stuttgart Open in Germany.

The Russian star has been one of the best players on the WTA Tour this year, winning her first two WTA 1000 titles.

Andreeva won the Dubai Tennis Championships in February, beating Denmark’s Clara Tauson in the final, 7-6, 6-1.

Carrying that momentum over to the United States, Andreeva then won Indian Wells, taking down Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka on her way to the title.

Now ranked seventh in the world, Andreeva will be looking to find her form on clay, making her debut on the surface in 2025 at the Stuttgart Open.

Victorious in her opening match, the 17-year-old explained why she was ‘super sad’ during her on-court interview.

Mirra Andreeva was ‘super sad’ after her sister Erika Andreeva retired from their match due to injury

Playing her older sister for just the second time on the WTA Tour, Andreeva led Erika Andreeva, 6-2, 1-0, when she retired from the match.

Speaking after the match, Andreeva said she was ‘super sad’ seeing her sister suffer from injury.

“Yeah, of course, we share the same room, so of course I knew what she’s been going through, and yeah, honestly, I have weird emotions,” she said.

“I kind of should be a little bit happier that I won the match but still I’m super sad it’s ended like this.

“But I’m sure that she’s going to take her time and she’s going to recover and come back as strong as she can.”

Erika Andreeva is three years older than her younger sister and is currently ranked 97th in the world.

The two-time WTA 1000 champion admitted that she may not have become the top-ten player she is today if not for her older sister.

“Honestly, I don’t think if she wouldn’t have started playing tennis before me, I don’t think I would play that well this fast,” said Andreeva.

“She kind of showed me the way, and because of her, it was easier for me to start to play bigger tournaments right away, so of course, if she wouldn’t be there, I’m not sure I would be playing this tournament this year.”

It was the older of the two sisters who came out on top when they played their first professional match against each other in Wuhan last year, winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.

Fans will no doubt look forward to their next meeting with the head-to-head now tied at 1-1.

Mirra Andreeva’s route to the 2025 Stuttgart Open title

Andreeva will play another Russian, Ekaterina Alexandrova, in the third round of the Stuttgart Open on Thursday, April 17.

Things will then get a lot tougher for the world number seven, as she could face tests against the world’s top three players in her next three matches.

Mirra Andreeva’s head-to-head record against Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek

Andreeva won her most recent encounter with Sabalenka on clay, beating her in three sets to advance to her first career Grand Slam semi-final at last year’s French Open.

She is, however, yet to play either Pegula or Swiatek on the surface, but could be set to do so later this week in Stuttgart.

Andreeva will play Alexandrova for a place in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Stuttgart Open on Thursday, April 17.
