Mirra Andreeva booked her place in a fifth career WTA final after winning her semifinal match at the Adelaide International.

Andreeva, seeded third at the tournament, defeated Diana Shnaider in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, to advance to the championship match.

The Russian will take on fellow teenage star Victoria Mboko for the title, with the Canadian also in fine form to start the season.

What is your boldest tennis prediction for 2026?

Mboko and Andreeva, aged 19 and 18 respectively, have never played each other at a tour-level event before.

Ahead of their first meeting, the world number eight said what she thought of her upcoming opponent.

In her post-match press conference after beating Shnaider, Andreeva said: “I know Vicky since I’m 12, so it’s also more or less the same situation like today.

“She’s been playing great tennis, last season especially. She won a [WTA] 1000 title. I felt like she’s been playing well, and she’s been raising her level tournament to tournament.”

Mboko burst onto the scene last year by going all the way at the Canadian Open in front of a home crowd.

Andreeva continued: “I think it’s going to be a great match. It’s going to be very entertaining. She’s a very nice girl.

“I think that we’re good friends. Yeah, it’s going to be a very nice match, super interesting. I just can’t wait for tomorrow’s match.”

Mirra Andreeva says tennis won’t get boring with the next generation

When asked what an all-teenager final means for the sport, Andreeva responded: “I think that’s great. I don’t remember when this happened last time, when two teenagers shared a final together.

“I think that’s great. Because if, for example, I don’t know, a legend from WTA leaves, we all know that we are here. So it’s not going to be boring. We’re going to keep everyone entertained.

“It’s great to start super early, when all of the great players are still playing, and they have like, I don’t know, 10, 15 more years to play on the circuit, and then here we are already playing against each other in the final.

“I think it’s all about positives, and, yeah, I’m just happy to share the final with Vicky tomorrow.”

Andreeva is seeking to clinch her fourth WTA title, while Mboko will hope to claim her second.
