Mirra Andreeva continues to shine on the WTA Tour, with the 17-year-old storming into the second round of the Dubai Tennis Championships.

Aryna Sabalenka has backed Andreeva to break the top 10, with the latter currently 14th in the WTA rankings.

Andreeva rose to 15th before the Australian Open, but has now gone one better to her career best in the latest rankings.

Russian star Andreeva fell in the fourth round in Melbourne, but that defeat came to world number one and two-time defending champion Sabalenka.

The 17-year-old then lost in the round of 32 at the Qatar Open, but is now looking to bounce back in Dubai.

Mirra Andreeva overtakes Coco Gauff for most wins before turning 18

She has earned a round of 32 meeting with Marketa Vondrousova after easing past Elina Avanesyan in the round of 64.

With that superb 6-2, 6-1 victory, Andreeva now has the most WTA 1000 main draw wins before turning 18 since the format was introduced in 2009, as per OptaAce.

The Russian has overtaken Coco Gauff with her 18th win, with the American now second in the list with 17.

Mirra Andreeva and Coco Gauff pave way for bright WTA future

Andreeva has enjoyed a stunning rise in her brief career so far, with many of her WTA rivals well aware of her potential.

The teenager will, however, be taking things one step at a time right now, although she does already boast one singles title and indeed one doubles title.

Andreeva won in Iasi last year, while she lifted the Brisbane doubles trophy with Diana Shnaider earlier this season.

The former has also already impressed at Grand Slam level, with the Russian reaching the semi-finals of the 2024 French Open.

She will have another chance to shine at Roland Grass in the very near future, with further ranking rises undoubtedly on the cards for the young star very soon.

Andreeva will certainly be happy if she can emulate the early career success of Gauff, who is already a Grand Slam and WTA Finals champion aged just 20.

The pair are very clearly two of the brightest stars of the next generation of women’s tennis, with the likes of Shnaider, Ashlyn Krueger and Linda Noskova also perhaps on that list.
