It’s been a tough year for ATP player Matteo Berrettini, with injuries plaguing his time on the tour.
Before the tournament got underway, Berrettini announced that he’d withdrawn from the US Open with some physical issues plaguing him.
Berrettini enjoyed a good win over Alexander Zverev in Monte Carlo earlier this year, and on his day, he can hit with the very best players.
Now, Berrettini is set to play again in China, and he’s already eyeing a return to Europe to play in another event before the year dwindles to a halt.

Matteo Berrettini enters ATP 250 tournament in Stockholm
At the end of the calendar year, players always chase those extra ranking points, and Berrettini is keen to make up for lost time.
He’s now put his name down for the Stockholm Open, which gets underway in October, and some high-profile players have joined him on the list.
Tommy Paul was in a cast after Wimbledon and only managed to make the third round of the US Open.
The world number 15 has joined Berrettini on the list for the hard-court tournament in Sweden, and he will hope to get some matches under his belt.
Berrettini has strong chance in Stockholm
Casper Ruud will occupy the top seed spot in Sweden, with Paul at number two and Ugo Humbert at number three – but the one to watch is Berrettini.
Reaching a Wimbledon final is no mean feat, and had he not faced Novak Djokovic in 2021, Berrettini might have become a Grand Slam champion.

| 1 | Casper Ruud | 12 |
| 2 | Tommy Paul | 15 |
| 3 | Ugo Humbert | 24 |
| 4 | Denis Shapovalov | 26 |
| 5 | Grigor Dimitrov | 28 |

Berrettini has slipped to number 57 in the world rankings and he’d dearly love to make up some ground on those above him before the Australian Open in January.
The Italian player has missed two of the Grand Slams in 2025 and now the hope will be that he can stay fit and healthy to cause some surprises in Stockholm next month.
