Madison Keys suggests what she would not be surprised to see the American WTA players do at Indian Wells this week

Madison Keys is feeling very confident about her fellow American players and what they can achieve at the Indian Wells Masters.

For the first time since Keys’ thrilling Australian Open victory, she will be back in action and looking to continue her 12-match winning run.

The 30-year-old’s success has seen her ascend to current ranking of number five, which is a career-high.

She is directly behind Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff, and with three Americans ranked inside the top five for the first time since 2003, they will be determined to play their best on home soil at one of the biggest tournaments in the game.

In 2025 Madison Keys aims to win the Indian Wells title for the first time in her career.

Given her form so far this season she is one of the top contenders to lift the trophy, along with the likes of Aryna Sabalenka and defending champion Iga Swiatek.

But some of her fellow Americans will fancy their chance of success, such as Gauff, Pegula and Emma Navarro, who won the Merida Open before heading to Indian Wells, and Qatar Open winner Amanda Anisimova.

There are six American women ranked inside the top 10 and given the strength and depth of their tennis, Keys would not be surprised if one of them wins the title at Indian Wells.

“I think it’s probably been a little while since there have been so many American women doing as well as they are. I’m really excited,” Keys told ESPN.

“I think not only are there the names that everyone obviously knows and are a little bit more established, but there’s also a ton of up-and-comers that are doing really, really well. I would not be surprised if you saw some really great results from the U.S. women.”

The American women, led by the US number one Gauff, are aiming to bring their 24-year drought at Indian Wells to an end.

No woman from the United States has emerged victorious at Indian Wells since Serena Williams in 2001.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion came from a set down to defeat Kim Clijsters 4–6, 6–4, 6–2 to win the tournament for the second and final time.

Gauff has reached as far as the semi-final in 2024, while Pegula reached the quarter-finals finals in 2021.

Keys has struggled in Indian Wells and has only reached the quarter-finals once. She will be determined to improve on that record in 2025 while in the best form of her career.
