A former Grand Slam semi-finalist gives a brutally honest opinion when comparing Jannik Sinner to the rest of his rivals.

The Italian stamped his authority on the ATP Tour in 2024, winning eight titles and becoming the undisputed World number one.

He also claimed his first two Grand Slam championships last season by winning the Australian Open and US Open.

Sinner successfully defended his title at Melbourne Park in January, and he is showing no signs of slowing down, which is bad news for the rest of the field.

What did Lorenzo Musetti’s coach say about the ATP Tour amid Jannik Sinner’s dominance?

Jannik Sinner made significant improvements as he ended 2023 as the World number four, and he began 2025 as the world’s best player.

The 23-year-old is operating a level of consistency that no other player has been able to reach over the past year.

Sinner has set a standard that his rivals have to reach and if they don’t, Lorenzo Musetti’s coach Corrado Barazzutti has a warning for the rest of the tour.

“At the moment, he’s an alien. He’s not good, he’s great! He plays at the level of a young Djokovic, a young Nadal, a young Federer,” the former Davis Cup captain told outlet La Nacion.

“The problem is that the other players are not at his level. [Carlos] Alcaraz, when he plays well, is the only one who can compete against Sinner, who has no ups and downs; that is his strength. He wins even when he doesn’t play well. He plays the best tennis in the world.

“[Daniil] Medvedev and [Stefanos] Tsitsipas are not playing as well anymore. We are waiting for [Holger] Rune, he is young. Djokovic is leaving. We will see if the young players reach Sinner’s level; if they don’t, Jannik will win from now on… He has a very strong mind.”

Lorenzo Musetti’s coach names the young players he thinks can rival Jannik Sinner

Barazzutti joined Musetti’s team on a part-time basis in 2024.

The World number 16 made great strides in 2024, as Muestti won an Olympic bronze medal and reached the Wimbledon semi-finals.

He is keen to build on those results and is one of the young players looking to break through at the highest level and consistently challenge the top players.

While commencing on Sinner’s dominance, Barazzutti named some youngsters on the ATP Tour he feels are best positioned to push Sinner.

“The young players who can come close are [Lorenzo] Musetti, Rune, [Ben] Shelton, the Czechs: [Jakub] Mensik and [Tomas] Machac, the Brazilian [Joao] Fonseca,” he said.

“They are the new players who are going to take the place of Tsitsipas, [Andrey] Rublev, Medvedev, [Casper] Ruud.”
