Iga Swiatek has enjoyed more success in 2024 winning another Grand Slam and is battling for the number one spot in the world rankings.
Swiatek won the French Open earlier this year, her fourth title in Paris, and the fifth Major success of her career to date.
The title came after a brilliant start to her season, where she rattled off four WTA 1000 titles, including Swiatek’s brilliant Madrid Open victory over Aryna Sabalenka, which many have called the match of the year.

After such a strong start to the season, things were inevitably going to slow down and Swiatek hasn’t picked up another trophy since her win at Roland Garros.
A slight dip in form that has seen Sabalenka jump Swiatek for the number one ranking, something that the Pole is keen to get back.
Laura Robson finds Iga Swiatek’s top tennis goals ‘surprising’
Swiatek recently revealed that ending 2024 as WTA number one was one of her three top goals at the beginning of the year.
Speaking on the Sky Sports Tennis podcast, former British number one Laura Robson reacted to Swiatek placing that much importance on her ranking.
“It’s funny because she has already done it so many times now that it’s surprising to me that was still so high up on the list when you think about the tournaments she hasn’t won – like winning on grass or winning in Australia,” she said.
Robson went on to explain just how much Swiatek values the world number-one ranking.
“She still prioritises that so much and you can tell that from her schedule,” said Robson.
“She has played pretty much all of the Masters, she is pretty consistent in the events she plays because she clearly wants that spot so badly.”
How many weeks has Iga Swiatek spent as world number one?
Iga Swiatek has been one of the top players in the women’s game in recent years and has spent her fair share of time at world number one.
Dominance on the WTA Tour isn’t a new sensation however, and it will take a long while for the Pole to catch up to some of the biggest names in the sport’s history.
| Rank | Name | Weeks at number one |
| 1 | Steffi Graf | 377 |
| 2 | Martina Navratilova | 332 |
| 3 | Serena Williams | 319 |
| 4 | Chris Evert | 260 |
| 5 | Martina Hingis | 209 |
| 6 | Monica Seles | 178 |
| 7 | Iga Swiatek | 125 |
| 8 | Ashleigh Barty | 121 |
| 9 | Justine Henin | 117 |
| 10 | Lindsay Davenport | 98 |
Swiatek has impressively established herself within the top ten but will need just under five years at the top of the women’s rankings to displace Steffi Graf as the leader for weeks at number one, a staggering figure.
First, Swiatek will have to reclaim the number one spot from rival Sabalenka, who is just one win away from claiming the year-end number one ranking.
The Pole will need to win the WTA Finals in Riyadh, with Sabalenka failing to win another match, if she is to finish 2024 on top.
She will play Coco Gauff in her second group match on Tuesday after Swiatek beat Barbora Krejcikova in her opener.
