Laura Robson reacted to the controversial double incident in Iga Swiatek’s Australian Open quarter-final with Emma Navarro.
The Pole made short work of the eighth seed as she took just 89 minutes to seal an emphatic 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Iga Swiatek used her aggressive baseline to push the American from side to side and never allowed her opponent to gain any momentum.
In what was just their second career meeting, Swiatek sealed a comfortable at Melbourne Park, where she has yet to drop a set in 2025.
The 23-year-old is now into the semi-finals at the Australian Open for the first time since 2022, but it did come without a moment of controversy.
Does Laura Robson blame Iga Swiatek for the controversial line call against Emma Navarro?
Emma Navarro lost comfortably to Swiatek at the Australian Open but had one decision gone her way, it may have changed the course of the match.
At 2-2 in the second set, Navarro played a low shot close to the net which Swiatek tried to retrieve. The replays showed the ball bounced twice before Swiatek hit it, yet Navarro was not awarded the point.
Navarro continued playing, expecting a call from the umpire that never came. Rules state that had to stop play when she saw the double bounce and as Navarro was unable to do so, she lost the point.
Post-match Swiatek said did not know if she retrieved the ball before it bounced twice, and Eurosport commentator Laura Robson does not think any blame should be placed on her and questioned how it was not seen by the chair umpire.
“When you look at the side angle there it is very obvious so I am slightly confused how the umpire didn’t see that,” Robson said.
“It is fast and in the heat of the moment but that is right in front of the chair. I don’t feel in this situation it should be up to the players.
“Iga is coming in quickly, she might not necessarily feel it, and then for Navarro to have to stop that point in the middle because she is not allowed to challenge at the end of the point. I definitely don’t agree with that. I think if we have got the video review we should be able to use it whenever.”

What did Iga Swiatek say about the controversial line call incident against Emma Navarro?
Following the line call going against Navarro, she did not win a game for the rest of the match.
Swiatek will face the hard-hitting Madison Keys in the last four after she defeated Elina Svitolina in three sets.
Post-match the World number two was asked about the line call that went in her favour, and she claimed she did not know if she hit the ball before it bounced twice.
“I wasn’t sure if it was a double bounce or I hit it with my frame. It was hard to say because, like, I was full sprinting,” Swiatek said.
“I don’t remember, like, even seeing the contact point. I don’t know. Sometimes you don’t really look when you hit the ball.
“So I wasn’t sure. I thought this is like the umpire’s kind of job to call it, you know. I was also waiting for the VAR, but I didn’t see it, so I just kind of proceeded. I was already focused on the next one.”
