Andy Murray is currently mid-way through his final ever tournament before calling time on his career.

The Olympics is a hugely interesting event for the tennis calendar, as it is a prize only up for grabs once every four years.

That therefore makes Andy Murray’s two singles gold medals all the more impressive, one of the few accolades he has over the Big Three.

And whilst many expected this current campaign to end quickly and allow for a triumphant celebration of his career, he and Dan Evans are not done yet.

They overcame a really awkward first-round clash yesterday in the most ridiculous possible way, in a manner that only Murray could pull off.

As an active and avid user of social media when the moment strikes, Judy Murray is never far behind as the number one supporter of her son.

And, across his stunning career, she has had plenty of times to celebrate his successes.

Although, with Andy Murray confirming he will retire after the Olympics, these moments are set to be in short supply now as time winds down before his final event ends.

Having teamed up with Evans for the men’s doubles, a first-round clash with the Japanese combination of Taro Daniel and Kei Nishikori posed a tricky test.

However, the manner in which they earned their victory was mesmeric, provoking just a two-word reaction from Judy, who wrote on X: ‘Same old.’

Laura Robson replied similarly: ‘As if they won that match!!!!!’

Andy Murray refuses to retire in silence

It almost feels only right that, for a player of his calibre and who has enjoyed such a fine career, Murray is not going out without a fight.

Although, it did seem like this would not be the case as we entered the Olympics fresh from the Scotsman having undergone spinal surgery, missing the Wimbledon singles draw after retiring from Queen’s.

People feared for his mere presence, and when he dropped out of the singles, those worries were exacerbated.

But already that have proven a fruitful decision, with his partnership with Evans sparking up one of the most dramatic finishes Murray has enjoyed in recent memory.

Down 4-9 in the match tiebreak and facing five match points, just after they had fallen a set behind as well, they rallied back to win the match and progress into the next round.

Regardless of how far they get, Murray refuses to retire without giving his all, and the scenes of celebration as they won that final point were great to see.

This is exactly what we have become accustomed to with this simply relentless legendary figure.
