Andy Murray was planning on one last Wimbledon adventure following his singles and men’s doubles struggles.
The two-time champion was devastatingly forced to withdraw from the former event due to injury, having waited until the very last minute to see if he could play.
Fortunately, he recovered in time to play the latter event with his brother Jamie Murray, although the duo suffered a first round exit.
The three-time Grand Slam winner was given a warm tribute on centre court after the defeat, with the Wimbledon crowd rightfully on their feet for the Scot.
Murray did, however, want to take to the iconic grass courts at least one more time, having agreed to play mixed doubles alongside Emma Raducanu.

Judy Murray clarifies her Emma Raducanu Wimbledon comments
But the women’s star was forced to withdraw from the event due to injury, with Murray’s mother Judy labelling the news ‘astonishing’.
She has, however, now taken to X to clarify her stance, saying: ‘Not sure anyone understands sarcasm these days.
“Pretty sure the scheduling (4th match court 1 with a singles following day) will have played a major part in any decision making.”
Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray both hampered by injury
Raducanu’s decision will have upset Judy Murray, given that her son has now very likely played his final Wimbledon match.
The 2013 and 2016 champion is set to retire later this year, with injury issues constantly troubling the 37-year-old.
But Judy will be fully understanding of the decision given Raducanu’s plans in the singles event at the All England Club.
Like Murray, the 2021 US Open champion has had her fair share of injuries, but fortunately is now back shining on the court.
But unlike the Scottish veteran, Raducanu has opted not to take part in the 2024 Paris Olympics later this summer.
