Judy Murray issued a short and blunt response to Emma Raducanu pulling out of the mixed doubles with Andy Murray.

The tennis world was buzzing with excitement when it was announced that the British duo would compete alongside one another in the 37-year-old’s final tournament at Wimbledon.

But at the eleventh hour the 21-year-old withdrew from the competition due to stiffness in her right wrist.

This means that Murray’s glittering Wimbledon career has now come to an end after he suffered defeat alongside his brother Jamie Murray in the men’s doubles and was unable to play singles due to back surgery.

Murray and Raducanu were due to commence their Wimbledon mixed doubles campaign against Zhang Shuai and Marcelo Arevalo in the final match on Court One on Saturday.

But hours before they were due to step on the court the Bromley local took herself out of the competition to prioritise her health for her fourth round singles clash with Lulu Sun on Sunday.

Murray’s mother Judy, replied to a tweet by X user @marcus_buckland that read: “Astonishing news that Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her mixed doubles match with Andy Murray. She’s citing soreness in her right wrist. It means Murray has played his last match at Wimbledon. Oh dear!”

The 64-year-old did not appear to be very happy with the news as she responded: “Yes, astonishing,” with the absence of any other comments or emojis.

What did Emma Raducanu say about her withdrawal from Wimbledon mixed doubles?

Fans are heartbroken after the news that the dream British duo of Murray and Raducanu will no longer play mixed doubles together.

This is all the more disappointing for the 2021 US Open champion given her previous comments about wanting to play alongside the double Olympic gold medalist.

Raducanu has since released a statement confirming that she will be unable to compete with the two-time Wimbledon champion.

“Unfortunately I woke up with some stiffness in my right wrist this morning, so therefore I have decided to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles,” the former British number one said.

“I’m disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but got to take care.”
