It’s come to the time of the year when lots of players on the ATP Tour are starting to make decisions on their futures.
Stan Wawrinka is playing on in 2026, joining Gael Monfils, who confirmed earlier this year that next year will be his final one as a professional player.
At this stage of every year, Novak Djokovic’s future comes into question, but he’s also going to carry on playing into next year.
For one ATP player, however, the curtain has now come down on his career, and he’s posted his announcement on social media.

Pedro Cachin announces retirement from tennis
Cachin is a former world number 48, but he’s now decided to end his career and sail off into the sunset.
The Argentine player won a title on the ATP Tour, winning the Swiss Open in Gstaad, with Albert Ramos Vinolas defeated in the final of the ATP 250 event.
He leaves the game after sliding down the rankings and now he’s sent an emotional message to all the people who have supported him over the years.
Cachin said on Instagram: “World No. 48 sounds easy, but it’s not.
For many, it’s just a number; for me, it represents hours of training, travel, competition, sweat, and experiences.
“It was an unforgettable journey, full of lessons learned along the way, with a clear goal that often seemed blurry or distant, but which we ultimately achieved. I say “achieved” because tennis is an individual sport that relies on teamwork, family, and people who invest their time in following and supporting you, from wherever they are and however they can, to reach that goal.
“I was privileged to have competed in the best tournaments and on the best courts in the world: Rafa in Madrid, Novak at Wimbledon, playing in the Davis Cup, winning an ATP title, among others. But I also remember travelling alone to Futures tournaments, where conditions are precarious and everything seems far away.
“I leave with a clear head and proud of what I’ve achieved, having given it my all. These are some photos that represent some of the most beautiful moments that tennis has given me.
“It goes without saying that I will remain involved with this sport, because it is the passion that awakens me every day.
“Thank you all for respecting me and helping me fulfil my dream.
“To my family, my girlfriend, my friends, the people who have always been there and will always be there, thank you from the bottom of my heart!
“Thank you, tennis, for all the experiences and lessons learned. Pedro.”
Juan Martin del Potro and Diego Schwartzman send messages to Cachin
Clearly, Cachin was respected among fellow Argentine players, and two of the most successful have sent him messages after he announced his retirement.
The first to send him a message was the 2009 US Open champion Del Potro, who is arguably the most famous Argentine player ever, alongside David Nalbandian.
He posted: “Congratulations, Pedrito! We hope you enjoy this new chapter. And thank you for being with us during such special moments 🫶.”
Schwartzman is another player who retired recentl,y and he knows exactly how Cachin will be feeling after putting the rackets away for the final time.
He posted: “❤️❤️❤️ You’re awesome. Welcome to the club.”
What happened when Rafael Nadal played Pedro Cachin
Cachin called this a dream come true, but other than the French Open, he probably couldn’t have picked a worse place to play Nadal.
The Spaniard won the Madrid Open crown five times during his career, and in 2024, he came up against Cachin in the round of 32.
The match proved a bit of a classic, with Nadal needing three sets to finally progress to the last 16, and this affair was well received by a packed-out audience.
With Cachin now retired, he will undoubtedly look back at this match as one of the highlights, and although he didn’t win, he did at least get to share the court with the iconic player.
