Gael Monfils confirms he would like to retire at the Paris Masters next year
As well as being a professional tennis player, Monfils also sometimes streams on the social media platform Twitch, where he plays games and speaks to fans.
During his latest stream on the platform, Monfils was speaking about his approaching retirement next year and was asked about which tournament he may decide to retire at.
There are four tournaments taking place in France next year, including Roland Garros, but Monfils actually revealed that he was hoping to make it to the end of the 2026 season and retire at the Paris Masters.
As reported by L’Equipe, Monfils said, “Would love to finish my career at La Défense Arena next year,” which is where the Paris Masters is being moved to in 2025.
Paris hosts the final Masters 1000 event of the season, and has seen Monfils achieve some of his greatest career results.
Monfils reached the Paris Masters final in back-to-back years in 2009 and 2010, where he lost to Novak Djokovic and Robin Soderling, respectively.

In this same Twitch stream, Monfils revealed that he had decided to end his 2025 season and will look to recover from these injuries ahead of one final farewell tour.
This is similar to the decision made by Monfils’ wife, Elina Svitolina, who also cut her season short after suggesting she felt burnt out.
Not only has Monfils looked ahead to his final year on tour, but he has also spoken about what he may do after he retires from professional tennis.
Monfils previously suggested he would like to go into finance after retiring from tennis, and he echoed this same sentiment on his live stream.
