Carlos Alcaraz and Juan Carlos Ferrero shocked the tennis world at the end of the 2025 season by parting ways.
Alcaraz has been told he’s made a smart decision by splitting with Ferrero, who enjoyed a successful playing career before turning to coaching.
Clearly left emotional by the decision, Alcaraz sent a heartfelt message to Ferrero upon their surprising split last week.
But the latter has now discussed the possibility of a reconciliation with the former, who is currently the number one player on the ATP Tour.
How would you feel if Juan Carlos Ferrero returned to coach Carlos Alcaraz now?
Juan Carlos Ferrero not ‘closing the door’ on Carlos Alcaraz return
Ferrero has been asked by Marca if he is closing the door on a reconciliation with Alcaraz, or if he wants to leave it open.
He replied: “Of course I’m not closing the door. With the relationship we’ve had, closing the door definitively wouldn’t be logical, neither for him nor for the team.
“I want to end things well with them. Disagreeing on certain points doesn’t mean we’re not still friends or that we don’t maintain a very good relationship.
“I wish Carlos all the best and I believe he has the potential to be the best tennis player in history.
“It’s something I’ve said many times. And, even without me, he has people around him who can prepare him very well.”
Carlos Alcaraz likely to be impacted by Juan Carlos Ferrero split in early 2026
It really is an intriguing scenario, which could have really rocked Alcaraz had it happened at any other time.
Fortunately, he has time to not only recover from the split, but also potentially find a new coach to replace Ferrero.
Who would you like to see coach Carlos Alcaraz next?
Still, he will enter the 2026 season in extremely unusual circumstances, which could impact his success on the court early on.
It will be a really strange feeling for Alcaraz to be without his former long-term coach, which may just play into the hands of other players, such as his main rival Jannik Sinner.
Of course, with more time the strange feeling should leave him, while there could even be a reunion between the two based on Ferrero’s comments, which would only be good for Alcaraz.
