Taylor Fritz has certainly improved upon his 2023 Wimbledon showing, when the American was knocked out in round two.

This time around, the 26-year-old stormed all the way to the quarter-finals, eventually losing to Lorenzo Musetti.

That defeat against the 25th-seed Italian will have upset Fritz, who had just overcome fourth seed Alexander Zverev in round four.

It is now quarter-final, fourth round and quarter-final finishes for the American at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon respectively this year.

A strong run at the US Open will now be on his mind, but the small matter of the 2024 Olympics is up first for Fritz.

John McEnroe shares details of his talk with Taylor Fritz’s Dad at Wimbledon

He is excited for the event at Roland Garros, but Fritz is worried about how the clay will affect an injury he sustained at the French Open.

Despite the issue, Fritz plans to keep playing rather than resting ahead of the Olympics, which starts later this month.

And according to John McEnroe, there is one specific area that the world number 12 will now be focusing on.

“I saw Guy Fritz last night, Taylor’s Dad, and he was like he’s got to learn how to handle the drop shot better,” McEnroe said on BBC TV.

“I’m like, yeah, no kidding. Taylor understands that and has worked as hard as he can. He should be proud that he has been able to get to number five in the world but that level that it takes to be with these guys, the ones who are winning the Slams, that’s a whole other level.”

Tim Henman agrees with John McEnroe about Taylor Fritz

Fritz impressively soared to fifth place in the ATP world rankings back in February 2023, his highest-ever career rank.

But the American has since slipped down the standings, having struggled with certain aspects of his game.

He headed into Wimbledon in the best possible shape after winning the Eastbourne International, but simply needs to improve his drop shot issues going forward to reach his best level.

McEnroe’s fellow former professional Tim Henman also shared his thoughts on the issue, saying: “I think this might be the catalyst for Fritz to say, he has got through to another Grand Slam quarter-final against Musetti and that was the specific area that he was struggling with.

“He has to be able to finish points at the net, whether it’s a serve and volley once in a while, or finishing points moving forward. Hopefully he can add that to his arsenal.”
