John McEnroe has rushed to deliver his instant reaction to Jannik Sinner’s triumphant win in the Wimbledon final over Carlos Alcaraz.

It was yet another enthralling encounter between these two great champions, and whilst not quite as dramatic as their meeting in the French Open final, we still saw some stellar tennis from the best players in the world.

In the end, the Italian had earned the crown, having been the better player ever since he lost that first set.

Although it was not as impressive as Carlos Alcaraz’s, this comeback win will mean a lot to the four-time major champion.

McEnroe, though, felt like the pressure of claiming these Grand Slams back-to-back might have been too much for the 22-year-old.

Speaking live on ESPN, the three-time Wimbledon champion was keen to laud Jannik Sinner for dethroning the new king of Centre Court.

Having won the last two iterations of this tournament, few thought anyone could beat him on the All-England Club’s turf given his form.

So, for the Italian to have achieved that feat deserves all the praise in the world, which McEnroe was more than happy to give.

He stated: “We talked about Alcaraz trying to duplicate what Bjorn Borg had done and win the French and Wimbledon twice in a row, so that was rare. To win it three times in a row was going to be difficult.

“But Sinner really stepped up in a big way, and that has to be one of his best matches, particularly after what he went through at the French Open, to be able to pull that off as comfortably as he did.”

This came after Sinner’s heartfelt winner’s speech, where he spoke glowingly about his final opponent.

It’s almost painful to think just how close Sinner was to winning that French Open title, and now how impactful that would be on his career.

After all, with three championship points squandered, the manner of that defeat could have crushed many for years to come.

And yet, he has bounced back in just over a month, highlighting the strength of his character.

That is now the only major title that he has not collected though, having won the US Open last year, and the Australian Open twice as well.

When he returns to Paris next year, it will be so with an unruly vengeance for so many reasons. Alcaraz will be on high alert to prevent Sinner from dethroning him on the grass and clay.
