Carlos Alcaraz in full flow is a scary sight for any player and joy for fans in attendance.

The array of shots and flair he brings to tennis is something unique and he always plays the game with unbridled joy.

At times he can come unstuck by a rival playing some of their best tennis, or he is unsure which of the many suits in his repertoire to use at certain moments.

But at his best there are very few who can match him, and seven-time Grand Slam champion John McEnroe names those players who are able to do so.

John McEnroe says only Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic can beat Carlos Alcaraz at his best

Carlos Alcaraz has established himself a leading figure in an era of men’s tennis post-Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.

He became the youngest World number one in ATP Tour history and he has four Grand Slam titles to his name at the age of just 22.

McEnroe has said on more than one occasion that he believes Alcaraz is the best player he has seen at his age and is in awe of his elite shotmaking and athleticism.

He plays at such a high level, that McEnroe thinks only Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic can defeat Alcaraz when at his best.

“Once he got going, the only two guys who could possibly beat him are the guys playing in an hour and a half. So I look forward to seeing what Novak has got,” the American told TNT Sports.

“It’s crazy at 36, he has won this the oldest guy, now he is trying to do it two years later who are turning into legends of their own, Sinner and Alcaraz. But if anyone can do something to Carlos Alcaraz at this point it’s one of those two.”

What is Carlos Alcaraz’s head-to-head record against Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic?

Alcaraz has contested some epic matches against both Sinner and Djokovic during his career.

The World number two has played Sinner on 11 occasions, and he has claimed seven victories, including their last three matches.

The pair’s last Grand Slam meeting came at the 2024 French Open, which Alcaraz won in five sets before going on to win the title.

Alcaraz has faced Djokovic on eight occasions, and has won three times, twice in the final of the Wimbledon Championships.

Their last match came at the gold medal match at the 2024 Olympic Games, when Alcaraz suffered heartbreak by losing to Djokovic, who became Olympic champion at the fifth time of asking.
