Andy Roddick was left in awe of the tennis produced by Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in their French Open semi-final.
The pair contested an entertaining five set battle with a prize of reaching their first final at the clay court Grand Slam on the line. After four hours of action, Alcaraz prevailed in five sets.
It was a rollercoaster of a match that built to a crescendo in sets four and five as both players found their best tennis at the same time.
The crowd has become accustomed to the impeccable shot-making and breathtaking rallies that the Sinner and Alcaraz rivalry brings and their first meeting at Roland Garros was no different.
What did Andy Roddick say about Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner?
Roddick took to twitter to share his thoughts on the gripping encounter between arguably tennis’ two brightest young stars.
“These guys are so good,” he wrote. “Hard to articulate how hard they hit and how well they move. It’s all absurd.”
He also paid attention to the injuries both players were dealing with going into the tournament, and the contrasting ways it affected their preparation, especially in the case of Sinner who had a hip injury and suffered cramp during Friday’s semi-final.
“Something to acknowledge with Sinner struggling a bit. Both injured coming in. One with a forearm which means he can still get legwork in,” the 2003 US Open winner added.
“Sinner game time decision coming into RG. Tough to imagine he was able to put in the normal legwork when dealing with a hip issue. Not all injuries act the same.”

Andy Roddick issued an empathic response to a social media user regarding Jannik Sinner
Sinner pulled out of the Madrid Open with a hip injury and did not decide until the days leading up to Roland Garros that he would play.
Roddick also took the time to hit back at a fan who responded to his tweet about Sinner’s fitness struggles.
X user @zeljko_vranic posted: “Maybe Sinner is faking some injuries, what do you think?”, and the former World number one did not hold back with his response.
“Why would he do that when leading?,” the American said. “He pulled out of his home tournament coming into RG. Why is yours a suggestion that makes any sense?”
