John Isner mentions Novak Djokovic and Coco Gauff when explaining what he is most excited about during the new tennis season.
The 2025 campaign is underway as most of the players competed Down Under this week ahead of the Australian Open in Melbourne.
The United Cup, Brisbane International and Auckland Open are set to crown winners on Sunday leaving just one week before the action at the first Grand Slam of the year commences.
With an interesting year of tennis John Isner, who retired from the sport in 2023, shared what he is most looking forward to seeing unfold in the new season.
John Isner mentions Novak Djokovic and Coco Gauff when discussing the 2025 season
As 2025 tennis season gets underway there are plenty of things fans and pundits would like to see take place. Isner has settled into his role as a tennis podcaster and analyst since his retirement following a 16-year career.
The American appeared on the latest edition of the Nothing Major podcast and mentioned Coco Gauff and Novak when stating what he is most excited to see in 2025. “For me in particular I want to see if Novak Djokovic can win another Grand Slam,” Isner said.
“If he has one more trick up his sleeve. Let’s see if he can pull that off. He is obviously motivated. I would also like to see if an American can win a Grand Slam, that’s from the men’s side or the women’s side.
“If Coco Gauff can clinch another one or Emma Navarro or Jessie Pegula, or any of the other American players. It’s the first time in a long time there is a legitimate shot that we have some players who can win a slam.”
Coco Gauff and Novak Djokovic went through 2024 without a Grand Slam
Gauff finished 2024 well, winning two of her final three tournaments, the China Open and the WTA Finals.
However, despite reaching the Australian Open and French Open semi-finals, Gauff was unable to add to her Grand Slam haul last season.
But with a new coach in Matt Daly and a renewed level of confidence, Gauff is in a strong position to get back into the Grand Slam winners circle in 2025.
Djokovic on the other hand, went through an entire season without winning a major for the first time since 2018.
He suffered a crushing loss to Jannik Sinner in Melbourne and Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon, the two players who shared the majors between them in 2024.
Dethroning the duo in 2025 will be one of the biggest challenges of Djokovic’s career, but if anyone can rise to it, it is the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
