A new Wimbledon champion has been crowned yet again, with Iga Swiatek lifting the trophy after thrashing Amanda Anisimova in the women’s final.

Both Swiatek and Anisimova were playing in their first Wimbledon final, where the Pole heavily beat the American 6-0, 6-0.

Anisimova has thanked fans for their support after the final loss at the All England Club, which she suffered in just 57 minutes.

The American will, however, climb into the WTA top 10 for the first time in her career at world number seven.

Swiatek meanwhile, a former world number one, is set to climb to third place when the latest rankings are confirmed.

Jim Courier shocked after Iga Swiatek wins Wimbledon final against Amanda Anisimova

Tracy Austin was heartbroken for Anisimova following her loss to Swiatek, with her fellow legend Jim Courier now sharing his verdict on the two finalists.

He said on Tennis Channel: “I think we have seen something happen this tournament that we will probably never see again.

“Amanda started this tournament beating Yulia Putinseva 6-0, 6-0 and bookends it with the other side of that. Can you imagine the preposterous odds of that happening!

“And how many games in a row did Iga win? Was it the last 20 games of the tournament in a row which she won!”

Lindsay Davenport tells Amanda Anisimova what to do next after Wimbledon final ‘embarrassment’

Both players fired real warning shots just before the final, having each enjoyed superb semifinal wins in London.

Anisimova battled past world number one Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, while Swiatek defeated Belinda Bencic 6-2, 6-0.

The Pole continued that formidable form into the final, leaving Anisimova and indeed many inside Centre Court shellshocked.

Asked if the scoreline will undo the positives the American has built, tennis icon Lindsay Davenport replied: “It’s definitely going to undo part of it.

“She has kind of got to wrestle in her mind to see the positives of what a great tournament it has been and what a great comeback it has been, and what a fantastic year it has been.

“She is in the top 10. She was not able to do that before. But there is no question there is an embarrassment level to this that she was very much aware of.

“She apologised to the crowd and handled everything post-match so wonderfully so that is a great sign for her, but you are going to have to have amnesia about this one particular match. Look at the work as a whole and try and move forward.”

Anisimova will understandably be disappointed after losing a Grand Slam final 6-0, 6-0, but there is no shame in losing to Swiatek.

She can also take great confidence from her run at SW19 ahead of the North American hard court swing, with a strong run at the US Open very much on the cards.
