Jessica Pegula is back shining on the court, with the American having endured a very tricky time with injury.

The 30-year-old is in superb form following the issue, winning her fifth WTA title at the 2024 Berlin Open last month.

The world number five is now looking to enjoy a lengthy stay at Wimbledon, having made it to the quarter-finals in 2023.

That does, however, represent the best finish at any major for the hard-hitting Pegula, who has definitely underachieved in Grand Slams.

But the American has kicked off her latest venture in strong fashion, overcoming compatriot Ashlyn Krueger 6-2, 6-0.

Jessica Pegula provides injury update at Wimbledon

Pegula needed just 49 minutes to defeat the 20-year-old, with a second round clash with China’s Wang Xinyu up next.

She has now issued a fresh injury update following her opening round win, having opted to skip the most recent Grand Slam at Roland Garros.

“It’s been really, really good,” said Pegula, as per Tennis Channel. “No issues at all since I came back, which is great.

“I definitely was patient with coming back as I think the French would have been pushing it a little bit too much, especially when I heard the weather. It was cold and balls were heavy. It probably wouldn’t have been great with a rib injury.

“I’m not happy I missed a slam but I think best case scenario it worked out and being able to do well in Berlin I was like okay, it seems like I made the right decision.”

Andy Roddick makes Jessica Pegula prediction at Wimbledon

Pegula absolutely made the right decision to skip the French Open, a tournament in which world number one Iga Swiatek breezed through.

Given the Pole’s form and the American’s injury issues, along with the weather and the clay court, a victory for Pegula over Swiatek would have been very unlikely.

All of her focus is now on shining on the grass at Wimbledon, with Pegula certain to be confident after clinching her first WTA Tour grass-court title in Berlin.

The fifth seed is among the dark horses for the women’s singles title at Wimbledon, while tennis legend Andy Roddick has predicted her to reach the final.

It certainly won’t be easy, with Pegula potentially having to take on Katie Boulter, Ons Jabeur, Elena Rybakina and Swiatek over the course of the tournament.
